Maggie Shannon

Practice Nurse

Works 4 days a week at RPC West

I qualified as a nurse in 2013 at the University of Nottingham. I started my career working in Secondary care on the Emergency Assessment Unit at Kings Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield. I worked there for 3 years and gained a lot of experience in a vast variety of acute medical conditions and emergency care, during which time I also became a Deputy Sister on the unit.

I was passionate to develop my knowledge in Primary care and Chronic disease management and therefore in 2016 I applied for a job in Practice Nursing at Ashgate. I completed the Practice Nurse post graduate Diploma at De Montfort University and cytology training in 2017 and I have since continued to develop my knowledge and skills.

Patient centred care is my top priority and one of the things I love most about being a Practice Nurse is that I can build a rapport with patients and offer them continuity of care.

I continue to have a passion to develop my skills as a practice nurse and I have a keen interest in Diabetes, Women’s health and Immunisations. I am hoping to commence a degree course in Enhancing Diabetes Care in the near future. Following on from this I would like to be able to develop knowledge in COPD management and complete my non-medical prescribing.
